Wordpress 2.7.1 Released, Bug Fixes Too Many

After upgrading some of my sites to Wordpress 2.7, here comes Wordpress 2.7.1 public release. I haven’t updated any of my sites to Worpdress 2.7.1 as of this writing although the update is available to Wordress 2.7 users (from within the dashboard). Simplescripts even offers an automatic update/upgrade to Wordpress 2.7.1 (from within my web hosting admin panel) but I did not have the gust to update because of my fear that some plugins will mess up with my MySQL database/s again which will be more detrimental than beneficial to me and my sites. :-(

Despite the number of bug fixes included in Wordpress 2.7.1 I have remained apprehensive to upgrade (again). This is what usually happens when a new version of a software is released – bugs will never run out. They will keep on popping up. Some updates are helpful, some are not. That’s the reason why some people opt-in for earlier versions of a software.

However, for the benefit of the doubt (myself being the first individual), I will still try and test Wordpress 2.7.1 and see what improvements have been made. Wordpress is a great blogging platform. I even suggested before that everybody should try it. It has tons of free Wordpress themes and plugins. It just takes some time reading which of these Wordpress themes and plugins are right for our needs as bloggers/publishers. These are some things newbies should bear in mind. For better guidance, read on user ratings/comments on plugins. Don’t be plugin-crazy or else your server could be overloaded or crash and troubleshooting the whole thing could take a few days to a few weeks.

  1. What scares me is to try the automatic upgrade. I couldn’t understand how it would go especially in the content’s files. I’d rather risk on my usual manual upgrade.

    Mhy,

Likewise here. Some readers might think that Wordpress automatic upgrades are good at all times but we have been through a lot of updates before. Automatic updates sometimes even mess up with some plugins and MySQL functions.
