BFAD List of Peanut Butter Products at Risk of Salmonella Contamination

The Bureau of Food and Drugs (Philippines) recently released a list of food products (most of which contain peanut butter as main ingredient) that are at risk of Salmonella contamination. The alleged source of contamination is a peanut butter company – Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). This company found out that their King Nut peanut butter with lot codes of “8” produced in Blakely Georgia was contaminated with Salmonella. Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) is a processing company which makes huge distributions of peanut butter and peanut paste to food industries and food companies in the United States.

Below is a list of the companies, brands and their products that were recalled and withdrawn from the United States of America market for risk of Salmonella contamination.

For your additional info, not so long ago the Melamine Scare in the Philippines and other parts of the world created a huge buzz about contaminated biscuits, and contaminated canned goods. With all these things coming around, the quality control of food products should be increased.

The melamine scare was expected by this author to be part of the November 2008 Nursing Board Exam (NLE) (results to be released in March) but since the topic became so poular, the Board of Nursing must have decided to exclude it during the November 2008 Nursing Board Exam (NLE). However, I suspect that the present “Peanut Butter Scare” will be included in the June 2009 Nursing Board Exam (NLE) so if you are an exam taker this June 2009, better read more about this topic. Just a friendly tip. :-)
