How to Configure Filezilla FTP Client (Web Server File Transfer)
It is quite easy to configure Filezilla FTP Client so you can start uploading and downloading files (photos, plugins, themes, etc) to and from your web server. File FTP client is a must-have tool if you wish to transfer files between your computer and your web server (if you an online publisher or blogger). Filezilla FTP client is a great software. First of all, it is totally FREE! Second, it comes with an auto-update feature so you do not have to worry about checking for updates every now and then.
To configure your Filezilla FTp Client account, first you should have Filezilla Client installed onto your computer then follow these simple steps:
- Create an FTP account in your web hosting account or ask your web administrator to create an account for you.
- In the Filezilla GUI, Go to File -> Site Manager
- Create a New Site or account there. Just click on the New Site button and rename the Site Entry to anything you want.
- Fill up the following fields (which are supposed to be provided when you created an FTP account or given by your web server administrator)
- Host
- Logontype (should be set to NORMAL)
- User
- Password
The whole thing should look something like this:
Voila! That should do the trick. Test if your configurations settings are correct. If you can access your web server, then you’re ready to transfer files from your hard drive to your web server. Just make sure you are on the right folder when you transfer files. This is especially helpful if you are transferring themes and plugins for your Wordpress blogs. You have to make sure you have opened either /wp-content/themes or /wp-content/plugins for those transferred files to work properly.
If you cannot access your web server, then it could be that it’s having server overload problems. In this case, you have to wait for a few minutes or hours before you can transfer files. If this problem persists, then you have to contact your server administrator for further assistance.

Gamit ko rin yan but sometimes FireFTP fails to connect to the server. I’m not just sure now if the same problem persists. I’ll check it nga then I’ll follow up this post.

Camper,
Ok rin sa Dreamweaver if you’re devloping websites. Ang kaso minsan kasi mga photos ang ina-upload ko so hindi maiwasang Filezilla FTP ang gamit ko. But I agree, very convenient ang Dreamweaver.

Roy,
The database backup can only be done through the administrative panel (which you do not have access). My best advice is read the documentation of the plugin you want to install before activating them. Not all plugins are helpful. Plugin incompatibilities are some of the most common reasons why blogs go down.
I will make a backup of your database but if your blog cannot recover due to a “fatal error” then there will be no other option but start from scratch.
