Incidence of Firecracker Accidents in the Philippines During New Year Celebration
Filipinos are fond of playing with firecrackers on New Year’s eve as part of our celebration here in the Philippines. Lighting up fire crackers is a culture we have inherited from the Chinese. Incidence Firecracker accidents in the Philippines during New Year celebration has always been high despite the efforts of the government and private sector to educate Pinoys about the dangers of using firecrackers especially the strong and big ones like “bawang“, “pla-pla“, “buko” and “sawa” – firecracker types that are sure to help you greet the New Year with a big bang (and huge expenses on medical bills). lol!
There is a growing concern about the use of firecrackers in the Philippines. Hundreds of men, women and children are rushed to the hospitals each year because of firecracker accidents. I am not discouraging the practice because the use of firecrackers is purely cultural. Use firecrackers at your own risk. It won’t be my fingers that will be blown away, anyway. ![]()
Here is a short Youtube video about a firecracker/firework accident.
