How to Deal With Wordpress 2.7 Problems and Errors

Have you encountered problems and errors in Wordpress 2.7? if yes, you’re not the first one and you’re definitely not the only one. Wordpress 2.7 problems and errors so far identified can be classified into two broad types: plugin incompatibilities and theme incompatibilities.

For Plugin Incompatibilities in Wordress 2.7

First off, back up your plugins locally (copy them to your hard disk) as a precautionary measure. If your site does not load properly or behaves differently after your Wordpress 2.7 upgrade, disable all plugins. If your site loads properly after disabling all plugins, enable them one by one to determine which plugin is causing the mess. If there is an update to that plugin, try to update and see if it works. If not, disable the plugin for. As an additional tip, don’t go plugin-crazy. Just because a plugin seems nice doesn’t mean it will be helpful. Some plugins have been tested by many users to cause site loading problems. Plugins are some of the most common sources of problems and errors in Wordpress so be careful in activating plugins. Read the documentations of plugins you’re interested in before hitting the Activate button.

From the plugins page of Wordpress.org, read user comments and learn from the problems of other users and how the problem was solved.

On the other hand, plugins in Wordpress 2.7 may not always be caused by incompatibility with Wordpress. Sometimes, the problem can be traced with server configuration. Contact your server administrator or web host support team if this is case.

For Theme Incompatibilities in Wordpress 2.7

Try out other themes if your current Wordpress theme is not compatible with 2.7. Some themes are really designed for specific Wordpress versions. Not all themes are created equal. If your site layout is affected (misplaced sidebar, lowered header, missing comments section) then most likely it is a CSS problem. If you know CSS and love your theme so much you think it’s worth keeping, do the following:

  • Backup your theme’s folder to your computer before troubleshooting your CSS file.
  • Take note of changes you’ll make with your CSS file in Notepad or on a sheet of paper. That way, you’ll know how to revert to the original settings.
  • If you are lazy to do this, copy the original CSS file (stylesheet.css) in your backup folder (if made a backup) then overwrite the modified CSS file by copying and pasting the original codes to your modified stylesheet.css file.  You can also overwrite the CSS file completely by uploading via FTP the said file.
  • If things really get out of hand, frustrating and mentally disturbing, rollback to your old Wordpress version. A separate post on this will be made so stay tuned.
