Apprehensive to Upgrade to Wordpress 2.7
Wordpress 2.7 upgrade has been available to self-hosted blogs since December 10. Wordpress 2.7 offers great features making the dashboard more flexible than its predecessors. I have by the way Wordpress 2.6.5 installed (just upgraded before the release of Wordpress 2.7).
Now, let me tell you why I am apprehensive to upgrade to Wordpress 2.7. I have observed that my search engine traffic decreased tremendously a few hours after I upgraded from Wordpress 2.5.1 to Wordpress 2.6.2 and from 2.6.2 to 2.6.5. It must have something to do with the transition. I’m not quite sure if the upgrade messed up my MySQL databases or something else. I used to do a little “clean-up” and tweaking every after upgrade but with my busy schedule since the start of December, I failed to carry out my server maintenance tasks.
More specifically, my sites got deranked for keywords I used to rank high in the SERPS for a few months now. Well, I cannot rule out the possibility that this is simply a part of the Google dance. However, lately I have seen that my rankings are coming back slowly. I have posted this in the comment section of Glenn’s post about his recent Wordpress 2.7 upgrade. I hope this friend of mine will not suffer the same experience I had when I upgraded to Wordpress 2.6.5.
On the other hand, don’t take this the wrong way. I am not a SEO specialist. Perhaps I never will be. I blog for money but I don’t do much SEO. I only optimize for topics that I am truly interested in and have a good deal of knowledge on. I do not earn my dough from doing SEO. Web development is my main source of bread and butter. Paid blogging is just a sideline.
However, since I earn a little from blogging, let me share with you my thoughts on Wordpress 2.7. The new Wordpress firmware’s features sound really enticing. However, I also know that some of you are apprehensive to upgrade (just like myself) inasmuch as problems with Wordpress upgrades have been encountered in the past. This is old news for old-time Wordpress users. In fact, I have documented in this site some of those Wordpress problems and errors which started to become more prominent starting with Wordpress 2.6.
I love Wordpress. It has been my platform of choice since I started blogging in November of 2007. Most likely it will remain that way for many more years to come (if I will decide to continue blogging) but Wordpress, like any software, comes with problems of its own. It’s not perfect. If you are interested in upgrading, please watch this video to gain more insights on the new features of Wordpress 2.7. Let this serve as a guidance if you think it’s high time for you to upgrade to Wordpress 2.7.

, actually from Wordpress 2.5 ako, then dami nagblog ok daw ung new version 2.7 kaya nag install muna ako sa subdomain ko, then observed it for few days, eh mejo ok nmn so hayun nag upgrade nko.

Marami ngang nagsasabing ok ang Wordpress 2.7 eh pero may konting takot pa rin ako kapatid. Hehehe! Oobserbahan ko muna ang ibang users siguro bago ko mag-upgrade ulit. Ka-upgrade ko lang kasi this month eh.

Hindi pa rin ako nag a-upgrade kasi lilipat na rin naman ako ng webhost, bakit pa. Pero natest ko na WP 2.7 sa local wordpress install. Maganda yung dashboard, the best ever.

Oo nga fren. Andyan sa video yugn sample features of Wordpress 2.7. Impressive but I still have to observe its behavior in the long run. Kalalabas lang kasi eh. Hindi pa natin alam ang mga bugs nyan ngayon.

Ok lang naman yan. Actually nagtagal nga ako sa Wordpress 2.3.3 noon eh at walang problema sa plugins whatsoever. Ewan ko nga ba kumbakit ko naisip magupgrade upgrade eh madalas sangkatutak na problema ang dulot ng upgrades sa kin.

the plug-ins are not upgraded pa bro. most of them are for version 2.5 or below pa.

That’s one thing the developers have to work on. Wordpress updates should not be as frequent as changing briefs.
Wordpress 2.7 errors are already being identified. Ewan ko ba monthly na lang yata ang udpates ng Wordpress ngayon
