Halloween in the Philippines and for Pinoys
Halloween (All Saints’ Day and/or All Souls’ Day depending on your location) in the Philippines is not just a time for the departed. It is a time for the whole family to get together, have fun and relax. It is the time to pray, remember our deceased loved ones and … gamble in the cemetery. Wait, wait, wait. Did I say gamble? lol!
In the Philippines, you will see many events during halloween. Hotels and other business establishments here also have their unique ways to celebrate halloween by making employees dress up like zombies, white ladies or any other horror characters you can think of.
For many Filipinos, halloween is a time to enjoy one of the few events of the year where the whole family gets together, sit down, enjoy eating together and play card games just for fun. Cemeteries here are flooded by vendors and all sorts of people. Yesterday, we went to the cemetery to do some cleaning. It’s our yearly obligation to our deceased family members and other relatives. I only blogged for about an hour yeasterday and today is the big day for us to to be together once more – at the cemetery. The “celebration”, as we Filipinos consider it, will last up to the wee hours of the morning. I’m not sure what time my wife and I can come home today. I just hope I can still find my laptop intact when I get back home so I can blog about the events at the cemetery.

Galing din kami ng Cemetery friend, pero kahapon kami pumunta, ang daming tao, ang haba ng nilakad namin. Noong 1st year lang ni Papa kami nakatulog sa sementeryo, mahirap na ngayon kasi malayo na yung tinitirhan namin. Sa San Mateo Rizal kasi siya nakalibing tapos dito na kami sa Manila nakatira. Ang tagal ng byahe buti may LRT.

Fren, mukhang kagagaling mo lang sa cemetery before mo na-post ito ah, heheee! Bumawi ka pa yata sa tong-its. Pero masaya talaga ang Nov.1 and 2 diyan sa atin dahil parang reunion na rin ang dating sa pagbisita sa mga puntod. Kaya ang karamihan sa atin di na naghahangad ng Halloween Party.
