Nursing Board Exam (November) Application Administered by PRC in Laoag City

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)-Baguio (Regional Office), Application Division came to Laoag City on October 4-5, 2008. The main purpose of the visit was to accommodate applications for the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE) or Nursing Board Exam this coming November (29-30). The event was held at the Northern Christian College (NCC) auditorium.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates from the different schools of Nursing in Ilocos Norte came for the filing of applications for the Nurse Licensure Examination. My wife and I even went to the venue at 2am just to get a number then waited in line for 4 hours just to file a bunch of paper required by the PRC. We had to do this because there were over 1,000 applicants and the PRC officials only had two days to do their thing. Those who were not able to file their applications during this two-day stint were forced to file their applications at the PRC Regional Office in Baguio City.

Schools of Nursing that came for filing are the following: Northern Christian College (NCC), Divine Word College of Laoag (DWCL), Northwestern University (NU) and Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU, my alma mater).

As you might have noticed, I haven’t been posting regularly these past couple of weeks. I have been helping my wife with her Nursing board exam review and I really have to do some research work for her. I want her to pass the Nursing board exam of course but my assistance alone will not guarantee her success. Up to now, we have been reviewing together. The Nursing board exam review is really a pain in my butt. I’m not taking the Nursing board exam but my assistance to my wife forces me to read and help rationalize possible problems/questions. I have been involved in the field of nursing research for almost 13 years now and I know how difficult it is to pass the Nursing board exam knowing that it is a function of chance, not of intellect. I have seen a couple of Cum Laudes and Magna Cum Laudes failed in the Nursing board exam in the past 6 years. Some of them were my former students in college and thesis advisees. I will discuss this matter in the future and provide you an explanation why the Nursing board exam is a function of luck. The discussions will be long and it will take a series of posts for the explanation alone, recommendations not even included. The Nursing Board Exam Results of June 2008 constitute part of my data.

I have other plans for me and my wife. We are in fact being convinced by a friend to go to Canada (which I attempted once in 2001) but did not push through. However, since I have made some mathematical probabilities of overall success (world crisis as one variable in the equation), I have come up with the conclusion that we really should get out of the country within the next 3 years. Staying in the Philippines our entire lives will not ensure us our future (mathematically). I just don’t know if in the next few years things will change and become better for us.

I don’t want to look that far yet because the Nursing Board Exam Results for November 2008 are not known yet. However, our plan to go to Canada is one feasible career move for us both considering the nursing job opportunities abroad. Alas! The expenses are huge. According to our friend, the expenses could reach Php 750,000 (if we decide to go there together). To remedy this, I’ve been contacting some former students as of late to look for a sponsor. Hence, blogging has taken a backseat for a while.
