Poisonous/Toxic Chemical Components in Cosmetics Like Makeup, Lipstick and Eye Liner
My wife informed me that American researches show that cosmetics such as makeups, lispticks and eye liner contain some poisonous/toxic chemicals. These chemical components are used to either add moisture to or lengthen the shelf life of these products. Some of these chemical components are Mineral oils and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).
Mineral oils are actually petroleum by-product that coats the skin like plastic, clogging the pores. Interferes with skin’s ability to eliminate toxins, promoting acne and other disorders. Slows down skin function and cell development, resulting in premature aging. Used in many products (baby oil is 100% mineral oil!) Any mineral oil derivative can be contaminated with cancer causing PAH’s (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons). Manufacturers use petrolatum because it is unbelievably cheap. Mineral oils come in different names such as: Mineral oil, Liquidum paraffinum (also known as posh mineral oil), Paraffin oil, Paraffin wax, Petrolatum.
On the other hand, Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) or sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS or NaDS), according to wikipedia, is an anionic surfactant that is used in industrial products including engine degreasers, floor cleaners, and car wash soaps; as well as in household products such as toothpastes, shampoos, shaving foams, some dissolvable aspirins, fiber therapy caplets, and bubble baths for its thickening effect and its ability to create a lather. The molecule has a tail of 12 carbon atoms, attached to a sulfate group, giving the molecule the amphiphilic properties required of a detergent.
A number of health concerns about SLS have been raised in published reports. These studies indicate that:
- SLS may cause a number of skin problems (for which the non-specific term is dermatitis), with some people being affected more than others.
- SLS in toothpaste may cause aphthous ulcers, commonly referred to in some countries as “canker sores”. However, some studies find no connection between SLS in toothpaste and mouth ulcers.
For more info on toxic cehmicals found in cosmetics, consider this list of chemicals in a common hand cream: Water, Stearic Acid, Sorbitol, Glycerin, C-12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Sodium Borate - TEA, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Aloe Vera, Phenoxyethanol, Propylene Glycol, Quince Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Potassium Sorbate, EDTA, Allantoin, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Butyl Paraben, Menthol. I fyou have observed, most of these are artificial chemicals that can actually cause harm. So, as a health tip, read the ingredients of the products before you buy. Allergic reactions can occur if you are allergic to a particular component.

Good thing Kuya I’m not into make-up talaga, however, my mother is the opposite. She loves putting make-up, she can’t live a day without make-up on her face. hahahaha.. I better tell her about this. Thanks for the info kuya!

Thanks for the info, it’s really scary to see what we’re actually absorbing into our bodies when we use this stuff - and it’s having the opposite effect to what we’re using it for in the first place! It’s crazy really, I knew about SLS already and do look out for that especially in shampoo but thanks for the list, I’ll look out for these too.
