Melamine Content in Milk and Dairy Products, and Breast Milk
This is an update to my article titled “China-Made Milk and Dairy Products Contaminated by Melamine” because the recent “Melamine Scare” brought about by current investigations on the melamine content in milk and dairy products (which include yogurt, ice cream, custards and chocolate) made in China, raised the question “Is breast milk still best for babies?” The answer here is pretty clear and simple. Yes. Breast milk is best for babies up to 2 years.
What is breast milk, anyway? According to Wikipedia, “Breast milk refers to the milk produced by a mother to feed her baby. It provides the primary source of nutrition for newborns before they are able to eat and digest other foods; older infants and toddlers may continue to be breastfed. The baby nursing from its own mother is the most ordinary way of obtaining breastmilk, but the milk can be pumped and then fed by baby bottle, cup and/or spoon, supplementation drip system, and nasogastric tube. Breastmilk can be supplied by a woman other than the baby’s mother; this is known as wetnursing.”
If you are concerned with your baby’s health, breastfeed her/him. There is no formula milk better than breast milk because breast milk has more antibodies and micronutrients integral in the growth and development of babies. It’s cheap, natural, healthier, and makes the bond between mother and child stronger as proven by science. If you are a nursing mother, I recommend that you give your baby breast milk instead of buying China-made milk products that contain too much amount of melamine. Don’t compromise your baby’s health just to save some money by buying cheap milk whose quality is below safety standards.
Lastly, on a personal note, what makes breast milk better than formula milk aside from the fact that it has more antibodies and micronutrients? Answer: The CONTAINER. ![]()

I go for breast milk. It’s still the best for babies. But if only babies could tell which taste good for them.

Mhy,
Breast milk is really good for babies. But in terms of taste, the formula milk tastes better. Why do I know? I’ve tried it a few years ago. I did taste breast milk in a small cup, I didn’t extract it from the original container. lol!

Mhy,
Hahahaha! Fren, totoo yun ha. I did not extract the milk from the original container. Besides, breast milk is safe to drink because it does not contain melamine. Kaya ok lang ako. don’t worry. lol!!!
