Some Facts About Coffee: Coffee Has More Antioxidants Than Tea
Recent studies show that coffee has more antioxidants than tea. You probably know it by now but there might be something you do not know about coffee - I’m addicted to coffee, black roasted coffee. Folgers, please! lol!
Ok, let’s get down to business and talk about coffee and antioxidants. What are antioxidants, anyway? In a nutshell, antioxidants are molecules (which could be in the form of compounds like Vitamin E, Vitamin C and gluthathione) that destroy free radicals. Free radicals are what damage the cells that cause diseases and health conditions like cancer.
Antioxidants in general have been linked to a number of potential health benefits, including protection against heart disease and cancer. A research in the United States analyzed the antioxidant content of more than 100 different food items, including vegetables, fruits, nuts, spices, oils and common beverages. The results are astonishing.
Coffee came out on top, on the combined basis of both antioxidants per serving size and frequency of consumption. Cofee easily outranked such popular antioxidant sources as tea, milk, chocolate and cranberries, he says. Of all the foods and beverages studied, dates actually have the most antioxidants of all based solely on serving size.
Besides keeping you alert and awake, coffee has been linked to an increasing number of potential health benefits, including protection against liver and colon cancer, type 2 diabetes, and Parkinson’s disease, according to some recently published studies. But there’s also a downside: Java can make you jittery and cause stomach pains, while some studies have tied it to elevated blood pressure and heart rates.
Like I’ve always said in previous articles as in “Drinking Red Wine is Good For Your Health“, moderation is the key to consuming any type of food and beverages like coffee. Moderate drinking of coffee can actually be beneficial. However, our threshold may be the intervening variable when we try to define the word “moderate”. In my case, 2 liters of coffee a day is still normal and I’m not feeling any signs of increased high blood pressure, nervousness or hyperacidity. I must have been used to this volume of coffee intake on a daily basis.
Michael Phelps drinks 2 cups of coffee every morning, according to Michael Phelps’ Breakfast and Diet. In your case, it could be a different story. For non-coffee drinkers, the smell of coffee alone can make them feel dizzy. As an advice, study your threshold and try not to reach your maximum. Coffee is addictive. You might not even get some sleep without drinking a cup or two (just like me) that is why I am now drinking red wine on a regular basis just to curb this addiction to coffee. ![]()

Hello Mr. Jessie! Thank u for the visit. It’s been a while. Hehe.
Anyways, i am a coffee drinker myself but i limit myself to a cup only daily. Pero half lang ng instant coffee 3-in-1 ang nilalagay ko. I used to have it all but i’ve noticed na sumasakit na ulo ko whenever i can’t have a cup in a day. So i limit it to half/pack and since then, i’ve never experienced headaches na.

I drink tea every morning. But I drink coffee in the evening, though I don’t drink when I have to get up early for work. One cup of coffee or tea is enough for me. Somehow, I can’t drink too much of both, don’t know why.

Mhy,
Your stomach is sensitive to caffeine that is why I cannot recommend coffee as a beverage for you. Try milk or juices as substitutes or alternatives to coffee or tea.

Sheng,
Peppermint tea is also a very good drink although I still prefer coffee more than tea. The only types of tea I like are with flavors (strawberry and lemon).

Joy,
Honestly, drinking coffee helped me strengthen my immune system. I seldom get sick and when I feel sick, it’s just caused by stress but nothing serious. In fact, I feel invigorated every time I drink coffee.

Twinks,
Just like Marlene, you have a sensitive stomach. However, your case is similar to my wife, her stomach gets upset when drinking hot coffee in the morning. I don’t know but maybe your body is not conditioned to take hot drinks like coffee without any form of warm up before ingestion.

In my case, I don’t drink coffee with too much cream. Cream upsets my stomach. I must be lactose-intolerant but immune to caffeine. lol! Oh, I love coffee. It’s one of components of my survival kit when I blog and write articles.

I find coffee to be a harsher drink than tea. I only drink it as an occasional treat.

Billy,
I have also observed your case in others. They find coffee very strong for their system. However, unlike you, I feel immune to caffeine. lol!
Thanks for dropping by my friend.
