Drinking Red Wine is Good for Your Health

Red wine has so many health benefits. For one, red wine reduces the risks of heart ailments. This has been proven by numerous studies before. Although wine contains a low dose of alcohol, moderate drinking of wine (especially red wine) can be beneficial to your health especially if you are 40 years old and above. Here in the Philippines, many Filipinos drink red wine to prevent heart problems from being developed. A popular brand of red wine here is “Maria Clara Sangria”. In addition, a report in 2005 stated that Philippines imported nearly 7.5 million liters of grape-based wine valued at US$ 12.8 million. Practically all grape-based wines consumed in the country are imported.

Aside from reducing the propensity to develop heart diseases, drinking red wine also has the following health benefits:

  1. Anti-aging effects of red grape skins
  2. Reduction in coronary heart diseases
  3. Healthier blood vessels in elderly
  4. Increase in the level of good (HDL) cholesterol and prevention of bad (LDL) cholesterol from forming
  5. Cancer prevention (protein in red grape skins are said to kill cancer cells)
  6. Prevention of blood clots and reduction of damage to blood vessels caused by fat deposits
  7. Stroke prevention (polyphenols in red grape skins keep the arteries clean)

White wine, on the other hand, is believed to promote the healthy lungs.

If you are serving wine to your visitors or a regular wine drinker, you should also have a wine rack where you can safely place your bottles of wine. Check out The Vine Store for more info and pricing.

  3. This is what hubby believes, too, that’s why he drinks a glass or two at dinner, sometimes when watching tv. Pero yung taba niya, di na yata maaalis ng red wine, hehee. He even tells her mother to drink red wine more often para daw sa blood and heart. But me, I prefer white than red.

    Mhy,

Yeah, your hubby was right. Red wine is really good for the heart and blood circulation. In fact, in my family, I was the only one who did not drink wine. Even my sisters drink red wine because some of them have hypertension. So far, after many years of drinking red wine, none of them had a heart attack yet and they feel good about themselves. They were actually the ones who influenced me to drink red wine. :-)

    Twinks,

That’s correct. Red wine is for meat and white wine is for vegetables. Franzia is also a good red wine brand. I’m just used to the taste of Maria Clara Sangria but I like the taste of Franzia better.
