The Philippine Olympic Team in the 2008 Beijing Olympics

The Beijing 2008 Olympics will open on August 8, 2008 and the Philippines is eyeing for an Olympic gold once more. The closest we got was a Silver medal in boxing (Onyok Velasco) which was a very controversial issue that time because many spectators (Filipinos and others) were expecting Onyok to win the Gold medal basing on his excellent performance. Well, this time, the Philippine delegates to the Beijing Olympics are hopeful once again to finally bring home the gold after all these years of coming home without any.

The Philippine Olympic team will participate in the following Olympic sports and events:

Archery
Athletics
Badminton
Baseball
Basketball
Beach Volleyball
Boxing
Canoe/Kayak Flatwater
Canoe/Kayak Slalom
Cycling BMX
Cycling Mountain Bike
Cycling Road
Cycling Track

Diving
Equestrian
Fencing
Football
Gymnastics Artistic
Gymnastics Rhythmic
Trampoline
Handball
Hockey
Judo
Modern Pentathlon
Rowing
Sailing

Shooting
Softball
Swimming
Synchronized Swimming
Table Tennis
Taekwondo
Tennis
Triathlon
Volleyball
Water Polo
Weightlifting
Wrestling

I’m sorry I do not have the names of our athletes participating in the Beijing 2008 Olympics and I’m not really sure if the Philippine Olympic team will participate in all the sports/events mentioned above. But in any case, I hope the Philippines will bring home the elusive Olympic gold medal. Go Team Philippines!!!

    Twinks,

The sport where the Philippine Olympic team has the biggest chance of winning the gold is in boxing, next is taekwondo (admittedly). Yeah, I heard the bonus money from the Philippine government to whoever wins an Olympic gold medal is 5M.

As to my event in the Beijing 2008 Olympics, wag mong ismolin – JACKSTONE!

    Joy,

Yeah, Manny Pacquiao is the flag bearer of the Philippine team to the Beijing 2008 Olympics. The opening day of the Beijing Olympics was really amazing. It was one of the best Olympic opening ceremonies I’ve seen. I was so impressed with the burning of the Olympic torch.

  3. Why would you list all of the sports if you are not even sure that the Philippines are participating in them?

Anyway, the Philippine contingent numbers a team of 15 athletes only: five swimmers, one boxer, two taekwondo jins, two divers, two long jumpers, one weightlifter, one shooter and one archer.

  5. The Philippine Olympics Team has so much to prove in the Beijing 2008 Olympics but it’s not impossible to win a gold medal. As a Pinoy, my support is wholeheartedly to the Philippine Olympics team more than any other teams in the Olympics. May all the members of the Philippine Olympic team be in great shape for their respective Olympic games.

You can pray on all disciplines that the Philippines are in except on swimming for that is reserved only for Michael Phelps and for the US Team. 5 swimmers for RP Team? They’re just wasting their time, testosterone, and huge chunks of money just for them to bring home nothing; and FYI: that Molina, do you think that he has guts, come on, you can see on his looks, he’s just a weakling to other swimmers there. Jeez, enough with the support already!

  8. Phelps not Phil.

I really appreciate your sentiments about Filipinos’ support to the Philippine Olympic team competing in the Beijing 2008 Olympics. First, can I ask you something? Are you a Filipino? If yes, do you know hte meaning of being loyal to your own team? If you’re an American, I will understand your bias against the Philippine Olympic Team but if You’re a Filipino I think you have to check your way of thinking.

Phelps has broken a record, Phil. has not. Reply:

Okay, first and for all, I’m a Filipino living in the US just supporting the team, on which I see, that is impossible to lose on a swimming event at the Olympics since that is where they’re good at; and second, what do you think are the odds of us RP team winning an Olympic Gold medal if we only have 15 athletes and yet back in our country we lack in equipments and funding? Think about it and don’t just support if you think opportunities are farther than you expected.

  11. as usual they went home with NOTHING! of course, they talk about personal bests but, my goodness, couldn’t they do those `personal bests’ back here where we don’t have to pay for it with taxes deducted (stolen?) from our hard-earned money!

i keep seeing these tv ads saying how proud we are of them. let me put it to you olympians straight! we didn’t spend money for you to show your `personal best’. that money was spent so you could show that you’re one of the world’s best!

we work our asses off day-in and day-out to earn a salary which, in turn, gets taxed 3 times over to pay, not for your `personal best’, but for a medal which shows that you LOSERS were worth the investment!

  12. couldn’t bear to hear the truth huh? i work hard for my money. why should i waste it on a bunch of yahoos who can only show their personal best in a sports event where the world’s best compete? you yokels are very lucky i don’t have a choice where this government spends my taxes. you guys are nothing more than a poor excuse of an athlete!
