Sitemeter Causing Sites to Abort When Loading in Internet Explorer (IE)

Sitemeter, a site statistics tool used by many site owners or webmaster to track performance (traffic) of their websites or blogs, is causing the loading error of their sites in Internet Explorer (IE). Now, this convinced me that I made the right choice for choosing Histats instead of Sitemeter in measuring the traffic of my sites.

The first sign of trouble came from blogger-friends who I was chatting with at Yahoo Messenger. I thought at first the problem was with IE but it turned out that the javascript code of Sitemeter was the culprit.

If you are having this kind of problem when your blog or site loads in Internet Explorer, remove the Sitemeter code from your site then everything will be back to normal. We have tested this in some blogs and it worked well. The “Loading Aborted” problem is caused by the javascript code of Sitemeter which is incompatible with Internet Explorer.  We will be less technical here. The only advice I could give you is remove the Sitemeter codes from your websites immediately and replace them with codes provided by other traffic metering tools like Histats (if you wish to continue monitoring your web traffic). Enjoy blogging!

  6. I’ve always disliked sitemeter, but now I have an even better reason too. Over 60% of internet users use IE, im not losing 60% or more of my websites traffic just cause i want to use their garbage.
