Prevent Type 2 Diabetes the Natural Way

Are you diabetic? If you are suffering from Type 2 (or Type II) Diabetes, by now you know that prevention is better than cure. Type 2 Diabetes, just like any other illnesses, diseases and common health conditions like arthritis and breast cancer, can be prevented through natural means or methods. Millions of diabetics worldwide (especially Filipinos here in the Philippines) can benefit from natural ways to fight or combat Type 2 Diabetes. And guess what? Most of them are relatively simple to follow. :-)

Here are a few tips Dr. Mao suggested:

1. Learn to read food labels well. Look out for sugar, corn syrup, and dextrose in the ingredients of the label. Best to stay away from processed and refined products devoid of healthy fibers and nutrients. Alcohol is nothing but sugar, so it should be avoided. Smoking and caffeine have an adverse effect on glucose metabolism and should be eliminated.

2. Take brewer’s yeast. Brewers yeast contains natural glucose tolerance factor that is necessary for production and utilization of insulin. Take one tablespoon three times a day for three months.

3. Get some herbal help. Fenugreek, garlic, bilberry, ginseng, and gymnema have undergone investigation for their potential beneficial properties for diabetes. Consult your acupuncturist or herbalist for a personalized formulation.

4. Learn tai chi. Studies in China have found that practicing tai chi for 30 minutes, at least 4 times a week for three months, have a positive effect on balancing blood sugar levels. Cardiovascular exercises have similar benefits when done consistently for at least 4 times a week. ;-)

Statistics of diabetes in the Philippines is high.  Other natural prevention methods not mentioned in this article are encouraged so as to ensure better health.  In the case of learning Tai Chi, Luneta in Manila is a very good place where people can learn this Chinese art. It’s actually becoming a popular form of exercise among Filipinos afflicted with diabetes, hypertension and arthritis.
