Can You Afford a Lawsuit?

Personally, I hate the judiciary system of the Philippines. I’ve seen (and had some experiences) legal cases in different levels and was not happy about the results. Some could say money talks big time in the court rooms. Sorry to lawyers and judges who might be reading this article but I hate lawsuits. They are expensive and time-consuming. Add to that the uncertainty that your case will prosper and justice will be served in the end.

In all honesty, if I were to be sued, I would not be able to finance my case. Luckily I have many lawyer-friends and former students in college who became lawyer at a later time. That would save me some money (if they will ever ask for a fee. Hehehe! I sincerely hope not.)

If, just like me, you will need legal financing for a lawsuit, one way to sustain the expenses would be to lend money from relatives, friends or even from your boss. Based on my experiences, some people involved in legal cases became so desperate in life. In wanting to finance their cases, they even went to the extent of selling properties, including family heirlooms. In the Philippines, lawyers get rich easily because they usually charge high fees (especially if the lawyer is a private practitioner). Whether the hearing pushes through or not, the lawyer gets his money.

That is exactly the reason why as much as possible I want to stay away from legal cases. “Prevention is a lot better than cure”. :-)
