What Have You

The Australian Tennis Open champion, Maria Sharapova, was eliminated from the Wimbledon championship tournament last night (Philippine time). I’ve watched Sharapova’s match against Alla Kudryavtseva (rank 154th in the world) very late last night and I was devastated when she lost. Her loss to a fellow Russian tennis player in the second round of the Wimbledon Championship was really disappointing. Maria Sharapova’s defeat was an upset as many have said.

Alla Kudravtseva showed a very good performance against the Australian Open champion. She played great tennis last night. Her victory against Maria Sharapova was like David knocking out Goliath with a slingshot. For Kudryavtseva, her tools were not slingshots but forehand and backhand shots plus impeccable serves.

Sharapova had her share of errors during the match. She committed 8 double faults during her serves, and in a championship match as prestigious as Wimbledon matches, those errors were truly devastating for her. With the elimination of Sharapova from the Wimbledon Championships, my interest in the tournament died down instantly.
