How to Recover Your Data Without Breaking Your Hard Drive in Frustration
My old hard disk problems are here again - my hard drive’s data are lost due to bursts of short power outages here in Ilocos Norte because of weather conditions. Now, it’s become my problem again to recover my hard drive data which will consume so much of my time and energy. Hard drive recovery is such a painstaking task, I tell you.
Maybe some of you think that there’s a storm here in Ilocos Norte, but hell no. There’s not a single drop of rain. Heat wave did strike the heart of Ilocos Norte for the past few days and many computer users like me complain of hard disk and memory problems because of too much heat. Yeah. Can you believe that? While people from nearby provinces complain of too much water because of the storm, we complain here of the lack of water. It’s like living in a desert. To add insult to injury, my internet connection has been down for two days now and I’m terribly pissed.
Here’s the problem. My hard drive doesn’t load its operating system (OS) after a series of short power power outages. The on-off cycle of electricity flowing to the hard disk must have damaged its head, which is most likely to happen in this case.
To recover your data, you can use a data recovery software like what you can find at www.z-a-recovery.com. I haven’t used it personally but it’s gained good reviews from experts. I have tried Ontrack Data Recovery software but it has weaknesses in recovering all the data (and in the format that I want) because most of them are in the raw format where the filenames take the form *.fil or *.file, where the extension of course is either .fil or .file. Now, imagine yourself guessing which of those files is your Microsoft Excel Workesheet with these types of extensions. Can you possibly know if it is a Microsoft Word Document or a bitmap image especially if you do not know the exact sizes of these files? With respect to ZAR software, users can opt-in to a free digital image recovery mode of ZAR which makes it more flexible. Just pray it works…
For those who have recovered their data without breaking their hard drives in frustration, all I can say is you’re lucky. Me? I’m on the verge of breaking my hard disk because I think the only solution to this is replacement. Or maybe I should just use it as paperweight.

Joy,
A noisy hard disk is an indication of aging. The head may be vibrating too strong already. That is expected if your hard disk is 2 or more years old.
