Firefox 3 Release Date is Today
Firefox 3 release date is today (June 17) but up to this hour I am still seeing the release candidate (RC) version of Firefox. I thought the official release is the one going out today ready for download. I have been using Firefox for more than 5 years now and though I love this browser, it does come with some handicaps. One of those is the consumption of too much memory (RAM) and 100% CPU whenever it fails to load due to some reasons like a power outage.
At the moment, my Firefox 2.0.0.14 is still non-functional. It doesn’t load properly and like I’ve said, consumes all my CPU resources and almost half of my RAM whenever it tries to load itself. At the moment, I’m using Flock as an alternative to Firefox while Firefox RC 3 is being downloaded as of this writing.
The Firefox 3 promises improved performance, memory usage and speed. New features include anti-phishing technology where ti won’t load a webpage known to steal your identity, one-click site info, malware protection and so much more.
I’ll be trying out the new Firefox 3 to test how it fares with its predecessors then I will follow up this post in the near future about how it consumes RAM, loads pages, consumes CPU resources and other pertinent features an internet user should be concerned about. Bugs are expected to appear in the initial releases (just like other release candidate softwares). Hopefully, the new Firefox 3 beats Firefox 2 in areas it promises to improve and designers/programmers have corrected the design flaws in the previous versions which in my view, as a programmer, were buggy.
