Drug Addiction is a Worldwide Health and Social Concern
Drug addiction or substance abuse is not only a problem here in the Philippines. It is a threat to everyone everywhere. It does not only destroy the capability of the drug dependent to think clearly. It also strips him of his morality. Statistics of drug dependents or addicts in the Philippines in 2006 has reached 60,000 (a rough estimate). From a health worker’s point of view, this number is startling given the available facilities in the country and the effects this number has on social processes and national image.
In other parts of the globe, the scenario seems to be the same. In the United States, the problem is much worse because it’s much easier to acquire the stuff they want practically anywhere. In general, the substance abuse has become a worldwide concern. Governments from all over the globe have implemented harsh campaigns to curb this menace but to no avail. In the Philippines, the government launched a “Help the User, Jail the Pusher” campaign which failed in the long run due to some reasons.
For many families who are unfortunate to have loved ones who were hooked on drugs, the only remedy they can think about is to put their loved one in a drug addiction rehab which may be good for some. For others, this may not be successful. I know because I have seen some rehabilitated guys here in Ilocos Norte who returned to their old ways after going through all the training and treatment inside a rehab.
In California, the California Drug Treatment can be a good place to start a new life for the dependents. they will be able to learn new things and see the world in a new perspective. It’s worth a try looking into this site because if yo are living in California, you might want to get your affected loved to enter the facility for rehabilitation. Then you can keep your fingers crossed he’ll never try using drugs again.
Substance Abuse Rehab could be our first step to fighting drug addiction. Everybody should do his part in fighting this global menace. Think about it, a deranged substance dependent can only do so much harm – not only to himself but to everyone around him. From a nursing point of view, these people make health workers’ lives more difficult. But as a health worker myself, our role in the field is not to judge these people but to understand them and try to help them get back to their normal lives.

Drug Addiction Rehab…
