Digitel DSL Problems and How an Unstable Connection Affects My Online Life
If you are living in the Philippines or at least have lived here for quite a while, then you might be familiar with ISP’s here serving broadband connections like Digitel and PLDT. Lately, there seems to be an outage in many areas of the country which is driving DSL subscribers nuts.
Digitel DSL problems are bothering me so much. I have written about this last week and the technicians of Digitel have done practically nothing but to answer my complaints over the phone for more than two weeks now. I call them almost everyday, sometimes two times a day just to have a qualified technician come to the house and look into the DSL problems here in our area. It seems the Ilocos Norte Office of Digitel has no qualified technician because after sending 3 different faces in my home, they were not able to fix anything – not the reliability of connection, and most certainly not the speed.
The speed of download is crawling at 0.2kpbs. The line only becomes alive for a minute or two then goes down for over two or more hours. How can I even ask that the company increase my internet connection speed if they cannot even provide me with a continuous internet connection? WTF is this company doing?
In looking for answers, I found myself scouring for info in forums. I have found out that PLDS DSL subscribers suffer from the same problems. This does not exempt Smartbro users. Other users even called Smartbro “Smartbroke”, “Smartbroken” and some other names I can no longer recall.
Ellaine, a very close blogger-friend also complained about this on-off cycle of her Smartbro broadband connection problems in General Santos City where she was forced to blog in an internet cafe. Knowing that like her, I am used to using my PC anytime I want, this case is extremely unacceptable. You should read her article Smartbro Sucks.
Personally, this is really ruining not just my chance to earn money from being online but my mood to be online. At times I have to wait for hours (take note, hours not minutes) just to get connected to the internet but to no avail, the connection still sucks.
In my attempt to update my blogs, I write my articles in MS-Word and publish them when my dreaded one-minute connection is on. In fairness, there are time when the connection can last for an hour. But for a blogger, a one-hour connection may never be enough. In fact, I can only make use of that amount of time reading my emails.
I even told my wife, my Digitel DSL problems might retire me as a blogger earlier than I should.

Ellaine,
Smartbro has been “sick” for a long time. These companies need to put things in order because subscribers like us really feel cheated.

Joliber,
Kakainis ang Smrtbro at Digitel eh. Ewan ko lang sa PLDT DSL if the connection is ok. According to some friends from Baguio, ok naman pero select areas talagang poor ang connection.

Twink,

Shiera,
Yeah, problems in broadband connections in the Philippines happen in select areas only. The problem is there are many areas in the country that is affected by this. Dito sa Ilocos Norte nga, ang mga Digitel DSL users eh gusto nang magwala sa galit because of the very poor service of Digitel.

i was just dropping my entrecard here but got interested in your article. my first internet connection was through digitel’s mango. the kbps that they’ve promised to their advertistements are just promises. their customer supports is zero. their call center agents does not have the know how. and since its a dial up my connection was crawling, but i am paying 3k+ per month.
then i switched to globe speak n surf. wireless landline plus accdg to globe broadband. it is still no good. not sure though if their broadband (not the wireless one) is ok.
now, i am using pldt xcite dsl. i am paying 3k+ for dsl and landline but i am happy. i am running on a connection of 1000+kbps. there are downtime but when you call their customer support they restore it asap unless the problem is major. although i am not sure if this applies to all their users.

Thanks for your very informative comment. I’m pretty sure other readers of this post have learned something about it because now they can compare services and performances of different DSL and ISP’s here in the Philippines.

SEV,
thanks sa comment mo. actually ang ginawa ko eh kinulit ko talaga sila nang husto. i used to call their hotline 174 and 175 (in my area) 2-3 times per day. assert your right as a customer. totoo yan. nagbabayad tayo nang tama at pinaghihirapan natin ang perang binabayad natin. we should only get the proper service in return.

DIGITELONE Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc. is one the company that forge RST packets as a way to limit clients seeding. This ISPs are not telling there customers what they are doing.
Traffic associated with Bittorrent protocol-based applications, like Vuze (Azureus), has been particularly targeted.
As a PROOF on April 21, 2008 Azureus released an initial results, Go to this PDF file ( http://cache2.vuze.com/docs/internet_future/First_Results_from_Vuze_Network_Monitoring_Tool.pdf )and search “Digitel” without the quotes.
For all Torrent Downloaders help me banned Digitel Worldwide!! I just shouted on their Support a while ago because they can’t solve this issue (actually I’m complaining everyday). I can download on a speed on 100Kbps early in the morning (1AM to 9AM) but suddenly it falls to 2kbps at about 9AM until 12AM
Actually I’m from La Union and the only choices I have are SmartBro and Digitel.

Saijin,
That’s too bad. Yeah, Digitel sucks. Up to now my connection is unstable. They fixed it for a month but then the old trouble came back and I’m back to my slow Digitel connection with many interruptions during my working hours.

Just got my Digitel Connection a few days ago. I should’ve read the comments from digitel users first bago ako kumuha ng connection sa knila. Ung inavail kong speed is 512kbps then the average speed I get when I test it on speedtest.net is around 250kb download speed. Their providing false advertisement at mejo nakakainis na. Grabe tlga, gumagapang, mas mabilis pa ang connection ko sa Makati wherein 384kbps lng un. But infairness to Digitel, di pko nadidisconnect so far. Sabagay 1 week plng ako.

Grabe tlga, naiinis nko sa bagal heheh, wala bng hack? Nakakasira ng trabaho e, nakakadelay. Haayz, nweiz may nabasa ako na you can speed it up but on a trial and error basis. Go to: http://192.168.1.1/ then sa lower page disconnect mo then connect ulit. Do this until you gain a good speed, I don’t know tinry ko na mejo bumilis kahit papano. Hope Digitel will make things better this year.

Mark,
The problem with that method is it’s only a temporary fix. The system of Digitel refreshes every after connection making it look faster. The speed is not retained after some time. Still, the internet connection of Digitel is slow and poor anywhere in the Philippines.

Parang dapat ipa-NTC na itong Digitel na ito ah.

Digitel Sucks talaga, laging paputol putol ung kanilang internet connection. Pati sarili nilang website di na magload. I got the 1 mbps dsl connection of digitel at ung file lang na 200kb kailangan mo pa i download ng 1 hour. damn so bagal, mas mabagal pa sa dial-up. Digitel the worst internet service provider ever. Damn!!!!!!!!
