Shifting From Broadband Internet Connection to DSL Could be a Huge Mistake
I recently shifted internet connections – from Smartbro Wireless Broadband to Digitel’s Plan 999 ADSL + landline. At first I thought it was a good move to “upgrade” my bandwidth from 384kbps (Smartbro Wireless broadband) to 512kbps (Digitel ADSL). Unfortunately, the increase in bandwidth speed that I wanted to gain from this upgrade this didn’t materialize as of this writing.
My DSL connection didn’t measure up with the rigors of my internet usage. Based on bandwith test results, Digitel’s DSL connection has never reached the promised 512kbps. In fact, the range of bandwidth speeds fall between nothing to 384kbps max much like Smartbro’s bandwidth but certainly much unstable. The increase in bandwidth speed has yet to be seen. Uptimes range from 5 minutes to 2 hours. After that, you’ll have to either restart your PC or turn the modem on/off for 15 minutes or so to get another connection. Add to that the downtime my server experienced on April 30 and May 1st due to unknown causes. With Smartbro broadband, my connection was relatively stable. Slower in general but much more stable.
These things I have mentioned did not allow me to bloghop, answer comments and update my blogs for the past few days and it’s been killing me since my DSL was connected. The problem is I’m too preoccupied at home I don’t have the luxury of time to get out and rent a PC in one of the cafes here in my Ilocos Norte. Damn! I even wrote a few days ago about Using Your PC to Call a Telephone via VoIP and I’m really hell bent on doing that using my unit to defray expenses on overseas calls.
I feel terrible because I do business online. In fact, it’s no secret that I make money online just like other bloggers like you reading this article right now. It’s really taking its toll on me – the thought that my bandwith speed is falling far below my expectations, and worse, when there is NO connection at all for many hours. This not only prohibits me to earn money but to socialize with other bloggers whose sites I love visiting whenever I have the time do so (well lately I can’t do much bloghopping due to the volume of writing assignments I have received or grabbed). I hope those bloggers understand this case. Sorry but time constraint is a problem at times. I have offline job/s, too. Being online and visiting sites of friends have always been fun but some technical problems are really getting in the way as of late.
Now, tell me. How good is your internet connection lately?
Note: I’m in an internet cafe right now and I can’t stay long. I’m not sure when will my internet connection be up again. I might not be able to respond to your comments but feel free to leave one if you wish. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Rj,
Yan ang problema. Since thursday I’ve been calling Digitel’s hotline and they kept saying the same thing. Up to now Monday na they have not done anything. Then connection is still poor kaya nakakawalang-ganang mag-online.

The fisrt broadband I have when I was in Phils was smartbro. At first two weeks it was really freaking. We keep on calling to re align the anthena as in 4times.

I have also read that Smartbro is better digitel DSL. I don’t know but I feel cheated with the deal. I’m still trying to tweak my setting and I hope I will be able to provide remedy to this problem the soonest possible time.

Well, jessie, using a wireless broadband really decrease speed. I’m using a wireless card broadband for my laptop and I still like the Cable connection i had cause its more fast and more cheap than on what i using now. The reason why i got this is… I can use my laptop whereeever i want to…

Ambo,
Huhuhuhu! Until now palpak ang connection. Meron ngayon mamya wla. Antagal mag-connect ng Digitel. It takes 30-60 minutes before you can get connected.

Good thing I came to this post of yours before switching from smartbro to digitel’s 512kbps internet connection. I came over at a digitel office today to report our broken landline connection and I inquired about their internet service. I thought it was a good deal since they offer more for P999 at 512kbps, now that I read your review I’m convinced that switching to digitel is a no GO. Thanks for this info.

Jomari,
Yes, Smartbro sucks big time. I understand why you want to shift to another ISP. Digitel sucks, too. After fixing my line (which went well for about a month), the old poor connection is back. Up to now I can’t get a decent internet connection with Digitel DSL. May I suggest you try PLDT MyDSL because i’m hearing a lot of good reviews from my peers who are PLDT MyDSL Subscribers.

DIGITEL SUCKS … they are so eager in getting your deposit and later on they’d say my application was denied due to me not making 20K. puweee! and when I tried to call their office demanding explanation and posible re-evaluation of my application, they just hang up. no wonder people go as far as torching their towers and stealing their cables. DO NOT APPLY with DIGITEL. Customer care sucks and the field reps are built to lie just to get a sale.

AMA,
That’s true. Nakakabwisit talaga ang Digitel. Digitel DSL has caused so much problems to my online life dahil putol-putol ang linya.

… also applying for their service is like applying for a credit card. is it their concern where I get my money. I showed them all my paid electric, cable, and water bills. I do run at least P1.5K on utility bills each month. BARYA LNG YAN SAKAKIN!!! so what is the big deal that they must know where I work? I had them before and left without owing them one (1) sentavo . ISN’T that proof enough I AM FINANCIALLY RESPONDSIBLE?
