American Idol Elimination Night Hits High Notes
The elimination night of the American Idol 2008 got intense after more than 30 million votes have been cast for the Top 9 American Idol (March 26 US time; March 27 Philippine time). This American Idol edition was not favorable to the two black contenders – Syesha and Chikezie. Syesha got lucky. Chikezie got eliminated.
My wife did not agree with the elimination of Chikezie because she just loves the mellow voice of the guy which is fit for ballad songs. He’s a good singer nonetheless. My wife also said that if the American Idol was only a talent search, then Chikezie would have had a better chance. For you info, the American Idol finalists (and winners) are determined by text votes in the US and not by judging in the audience.
Even Simon, Paula and Randy (the mainstay judges) stated that if the American Idol was still a talent search and not a popularity contest, then those eliminated (like Chikezie) would still be in the running.
Well, the producers of the show earn lots of cash by allowing US-based cellular phone owners to cast their votes through text messaging. And that made the American Idol a popularity contest. Those who are more popular have a slight advantage than those who are not even if they more talented.

I agree. I agree!!!To bad that many people doesn’t have the taste in such style of singing like Chiekezie does. Admit it but even if we knew that someone are better than our bet we still ignore it knowing our bet is also filipino and we are proud one of our kababayan is in and we even participating in making them stay or making Ramiele stay till the end of the contest. Sorry nalang kahit sino pang magaling dyan kasi popularity ang labanan eh, sa pinoy parin tayo kahit si Janina San Miguel payan toinks!

If voting was done by talent and not popularity there would probably a completely different group in the top 10 this year. Chikeze should have made it atleast another couple of rounds.
