De La Hoya vs. Mayweather Rematch Underway

Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. broke all box-office records in boxing history when they first met in May of 2007. Mayweather’s intent to retire after his fight with Hatton will have to be postponed as another box-office prizefight with De La Hoya is underway, come September 13 or 20, 2008.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com that “We are still discussing things but we have almost finalized it.” He also mentioned that the site for Mayweather-De La Hoya II has not been settled. Some sites they are considering are: the 27,000-seat Home Depot Center and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

During their first encounter Mayweather won a split decision to take De La Hoya’s junior middleweight world boxing championship belt. However, this time, De La Hoya is seriously considering taking back what was his – the junior middleweight belt (and a truckload of cash). Mayweather vs De La Hoya tickets are sold at variable prices in different ticket booths in the US. For more info on this, check you local listings when the fight schedule draws near.
