Is Bb. Pilipinas 2008 Beauty Pageant a Fair Contest?
The Binibining Pilipinas 2008 winners received so many negative comments as of late. Many believe the winners cannot even stand a chance to represent our country in the Ms. Universe, Ms. World and Ms. International beauty pageants to be held on foreign lands this year.
I watched the Bb. Pilipinas 2008 and truly, the candidates did not answer the questions the way a beauty queen should have. Some speculate that it was a “lutong Macau” – a fixed contest where the winners were pre-determined long before they contestants hit the stage for the grand coronation night. I don’t know. But to be honest I was disgusted not just about the outcome but the Question and Answer portion was really a bore and an injustice to the whole franchise. No IQ, low IQ, what have you. I was telling my wife maybe someday the Philippines should qualify further the candidates by way of subjecting them to thorough IQ tests before they are accepted. Being a Bb. Pilipinas is not just about looks, height and good skin tone. It’s also about intelligence – the one Gloria Diaz has and has shown to the world when she won the title decades ago - a true beauty that radiates from deep within which all Filipinos can be proud of having as the country’s representative in international competitions.
Next time, I told my wife, I will not watch the Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant again. Call it trauma.

Gosh!Generally, the entire pageant was such a crappy one.I can’t still even figure it out on how Janina San Miguel will represent the country foR “Miss World”. The other girls are fine. I mean,they deserve the crown.Oh! well, she was really my bet the fisrt time i saw her. But, when one of the judges asked a question, i was like, Oh! don’t be nervous, i know you can make it! Go! GO! But it turned out to be really, really funny and frustrating as well. When the winners were announced, she was not already on my list.. I was so surprised that she won. All i can say is, the pageant has lost its credibility… They should have screened all the contestants and chosen the one who deserves to be the real winner, who is worthy enough to wear the crown. The whole world is watching the show. It is really a pity that this pretigious pageant is deteriorating. Please do something…..

They should have not based it on beauty alone. Kasi pagdating naman nila sa international pageant, halos lahat magaganda. What will make a candidate stand out is her quick wit when she gets interviewed by the judges. How can they exude confidence if they are not smart at all? Baka naman for the first time, kelangan ng Pinas ng interpreter pag sumabak na ang mga napili nila. hehe

this question and answer part is getting excruciatingly boring. those celebrities throwing questions are too banal und unimaginative no wonder the candidates give silly answers at the same time. nonetheless, the only contest where a candidate is expected to be, at least, witty is the miss universe. for miss world and miss international, you just have to be beautiful and that is fairly enough.

I agree with you…Probably, the foreign judges made to win Janina though he’s pretty and tall so that when comes to miss world she couldn’t answer well the questions. In other words, there something bad motive for her and the result might be ridiculous.

Since, Janina is weak in English language, trainers for her should double practicing her ramp, question and answer portion. Trainers should encourage her to read social issues or even reading materials inorder to enhance her speaking ability as well as her pronunciation, just like, she articulates this as “Pamily,” instead of “Family”. I think that was very absurd to the audience because she can’t speak well in English.

Let’s hope that during the 2008 Miss World Beauty Pageant, which will be held in Ukraine, Janina will win and can articulate well in answering for the question and answer portion. Hoping she will be more confident onstage.

To all Filipinas, when joining beauty pageants, i suggest you that read a lot and watch English and American movies inorder to enhance your listening and speaking ability. It is very impressive when one is answering well and has good English diction. You can also make possible question. Gather some information and observe the social conditions or situation around the world or you must be informative at all so that when you are asked during the question and answer portion, so can get easily and comfortably answer the question. That’s it…

I saw the pageant at talagang si Janina ay nakakahiya. But on the other side ano kaya ang magiging sagot niya if she was allowed to just to answer it in tagalog? BAka nagkaroon ng katuturan ang sagot niya. Remember ang mga nanalo noon sa mga miss universe ay from Venezuela na di naman marunong magEnglish di ba?

I agree. The audition shouldn’t just include catwalking while wearing swimsuits, etc. IQ test and interviews should be given the same if not more weight.
Nakakahiya kasi eh. Pinagmamalaki natin na English-speaking country tayo and these ladies represent our country. Kahit na “Pinoy accent” ang English basta ok naman ang grammar and kuha yung question. Too sad…

Sana po sa susunod na beauty contest, ang kukuning mga judge ay yong mga may alam din sa para naman kahit papano d sabihin na daya nag contest.

Walang mapoproduce na Miss Universe ulit ang PILIPINAS kung ganito ang kalakaran o sistema ng nagpapatakbo dito…. since 1973 pa huling nakuha ng Pilipinas and titulo,,, what 34 years na walang nananalo… sa Miss World simula pa nung itinayo nung 1952 wala paring nananalo… ano ba yan.. meaning kelangan na ng OVERHAULING sa buong sistema ng industriyang ito…

not everybody is well versed of the english language..even the English speaking people have wrong grammars…
but the mere fact that you don’t even understand the question is one big flop…
it doesn’t matter if you have mispronounced the words as long as you answer in context to the question.

the Question asked was so elementary & simple.. and she did’nt / can’t answer it briefly.
In every contest, READINESS of every candidate is a must… the “WIT” to knockout their competitors impromptu.
and Janina did not show it., instead she acted weird.
Excuses are not counted after the match.
As for the Judges, i think they feel they can still mould her properly. Pinoy style “puede na yan”… “she looks best among the batch”.
I bet there A LOT of pretty young girls out there with stronger brains who could represent the country.. (better than Janina). It’s just a matter of intelligent SEARCHING EFFORT by the organizers.
Example of GREAT search pattern: American Idol = the judges go to different places to meet those wannabies. That’s fair enough.

I think that the Bb. Pilipinas Universe deserves to win over the Bb. Pilipinas World this year. She has the face, confidence, and the intelligence that their Bb. Pilipinas World doesn’t have.
But I also agree, that she might not won this years title, for the very reason that her beauty appears to be the same as those representatives from Europe and America. In short, walang uniqueness. Hindi lang siguro siya mapapansin don. Pero who knows naman diba? Let’s all give them a chance to prove themselves that they are somewhat worthy of their titles.
