Schooling Could be the Answer to Running a Business Better

As a small businessman myself, I’ve always believed that you have to know the business are interested in. You also have to learn the trade by doing the trade. However, to succeed in this department, some experiments and apprenticeship might be needed. Whether the business you want to try is selling some tangible products on the streets, manufacturing, online marketing, rendering of services, you will always find it overwhelming to learn everything that needs to be learned to become effective and efficient in running your business. Even blogging, when considered as a business, necessitates learning and a lot of experimentations.

In this regard, schooling may come in handy if learning HOW to run a business crosses your mind. The best option for you is to attend a business school especially if the type of business you want to try is that which involves huge amounts of capital. As for me, there’s nothing really better than knowing how to run a business (first and foremost) before diving into it. In my personal experiences, I’ve had shares of failures in some ventures in the past. I once tried buying and selling “bawang” (garlic) here in Ilocos Norte since it was a lucrative business before, not knowing that the trend of the annual sale of garlic is leaning downward due to the entry of Taiwan garlic here in the Philippines. The preference of the buying public shifted from the locally-produced garlic to the imported ones from Taiwan due to the lower price of the latter. This experiment of mine cost so much I should have been able to buy a better car for myself. If I only had the proper education, I said, then I shouldn’t have lost so much money. All these troubles could have been avoided if I only studied these trends and the shifting preferences of the market. So a word of advice: if you want to get into the world of business, learn business and how to run a business. Again, formal schooling could really help a lot.

  4. @ Vienna,

That’s one of my policies. The ad must be relevant to my site and/or interests. I also take it as a chance to enlighten or educate my readers even if I do reviews at times. It’s not just in the spirit of earning. It’s also in the spirit of learning.

  5. @ Joy,

Yes there are still those who succeed even without formal education. However, it’s the attitude that really determines this success. Formal education is important as there are many areas of business, personal experience in the field cannot explain. Formal education provides the theoretical framework where we base most of our actions.

  6. Joy is right Kuya. There were people who were born to be businessmen. Lucio Tan is one best example. He wasn’t able to get a formal schooling before he ventured into business and look at where he is now!

By the way, you have another dollars coming your way, hehe! Balato naman jan kuya, hahaha!

  7. @ Ellaine,

Pakonti konti lang. Isa pa related yan sa mga business ventures ko. Minsan kasi pabigla-bigla tayo pagdating sa negosyo. ganun ang nagnyari sa kin sa bawang bisnes ko eh. I really should have learned business before. But I’ve grown older and wiser now pagdating sa bisnes. In fact, I’ve learned my present bisnes (ID manufaturing and t-shirt printing from observations and interview with good friends who shared their knowledge about the trade. The difference is pag malaki na yung negosyong gusto mong pasukin, iba lang kung tlagang may formal schooling ka.
