Who’s Your Idol Meme

I’m not really into memes and tags. A lot of friends and regular readers know that. This is because most of them are girlish or simply uninteresting to me with very little objective but to increase Technorati ranks. If I were only conscious about my Technorati ranking (which is primarily the reason why many participate in a meme), then I would have jumped into the meme bandwagon every time there is a chance. But, no. That’s just something I cannot do with the kind of write-ups I did and am doing. Spammers stealing the content of this blog are enough to increase my Technorati rank. Why? Just in case you didn’t know, spammers who do nothing but copy your work through pingbacks can also contribute to your Technorati ranks (if they find your article good or “spammable” based on the keywords in your title or article’s body). If you will check my Technorati rank and who links to me, you’ll see what I mean. Some of them are spammers.

However, I decided to initiate one meme so that others won’t see me as a killjoy. For this one, I’ll add a little twist to the meme where one should answer questions honestly and intelligently – just my type of game, but which can bore others who don’t really love thinking.

Here it is:

Answer the following then tag as many as you want.

  1. Who is/are your idol/s? –
  2. What characteristic/s does/do your idol/s possess/es that draws you to him/her/them? –
  3. What have you learned from him/her/them? –
  4. Have you applied anything you’ve learned from your idol/s? –
  5. What have you taught others based on what you’ve learned from your idol/s? –
  6. What are the things that you don’t like about your idol/s? –
  7. Have you done something to correct them? –

For my own answers,

  1. Who is/are your idol/s?

My mother, Dr. John Nash (mathematician who formulated Game Theory, the real-life character in “A Beautiful Mind” portrayed by Russell Crowe) and Randy Couture (UFC Heavyweight Champion of the World)

  2. What characteristics does/do your idol (or idols) possess/es that draw/s you to him/her/them? –

My mother – her wit, kindness, singing prowess, loving nature, sweetness, courage and strength for raising her kids (me included)

John Nash – intelligence and will to live a normal life despite being a schizoid

Randy Couture – discipline, competitiveness, high-level martial arts skills and sportsmanship, a ture classy person even in defeat

  3. What have you learned from him/her/them? –

My Mother – money is not everything, always read and study hard

John Nash – failure is in the mind, you won’t fail if you have a strong will

Randy Couture – age is just a number, keep competing but accept defeat in a manly way

  4. Have you applied anything you’ve learned from your idol/s? –

Yes, most of them, I think.

  5. What have you taught others based on what you’ve learned from your idol/s? –

Money is not everything. Value friends. If you want to achieve something, work hard for it.

  6. What are the things that you don’t like about your idol/s? –

My mother – culinary skills, she didn’t know how to cook well and meddled so much with my personal things

Dr. John Nash – nearly killed his own child

    Randy Couture – nothing really

  7. Have you done something to correct them? –

Nothing. My mom is dead, John Nash and Randy Couture are not within my reach.

I’m tagging the following people for their answers on the questions included in this meme: Ellaine, Elaine, Bregie, Amor, Marlene, Rj, Karmi, Kai, Jennie, and Sheng.

  3. Finally! I knew you would cook up something like this as an alternative to all the tagging all of us “fans of yours” have regularly bombarded you with. It’s so you and I really like the way you come up with the things you write in general.

Will do this in a while. Thank you po kuya for including me in your list. :-)

In fairview, magaling ka talagag magsulat, huh! And not only that, magaling ka rin in other aspects, based on what I have been reading. Kaya, sa yo ako magtatanong. ANO ANG MEME?

Consider me stupid but you see, I have been wondering what this is and I still don’t get it. I am new toserious blogging and I am more of a writer than an advertiser of my blog. So, please enlighten me.

  6. @ Jennie,

Of course dapat naman nating baguhin ang mga nakanasayan natin sa mga meme’s na kung minsan eh hindi mo kailangan mag-isip. I just want something new and probably useful to others by way of revealing some of our sensible side.

  7. HotMomma,

A “meme” is an article where you can pass it to other people. Memes were invented to increase backlinks and Technorati ranks because the person you’ve passed the meme to will link you in their article. Sometimes, people abuse it by posting memes after memes (those awards that you see and at times pretty stupid articles just to get links). I’ve nothing against it but I’m not just into it 99% of the time due to my orientation and workload.

  11. Tama po kayo jan. A new spice to the meme fad. Galing. Stimulating nga yung meme niyo na ito, tamang we get to reveal more of ourselves to the people we are linking to and at the same time you allow others to share more of themselves and think for a change. I agree most memes have been dragged low to the point that even awards cease to mean so much as its purpose.

  12. Haha! Lagot ako… sapul! I don’t love to think pa naman. :D At saka friend, ako ba talaga ni-tag mo kasi wala namang link sa akin eh, http: hehe.

My site is currently unavailable and all those under my webhost, error establishing a database connection daw. My webhost’s DB server is probably down. I could have posted this tag immediately, hehe nag alibi pa. Pero pano ba yan, most of my faves are singers/actors!

Anyway, I also care less about my Technorati ranking. I even hardly visit the site to know who links to me. I truly understand your point why you’re not into memes and tag. But like what I mentioned in my post, I will still be tagging you, para naman may chance akong manalo sa pa contest mo at maging isa sa Best Taggers of the Month. :D

  13. You are making your own meme, ha. But you can count on me on this one. This is different. Ikaw pa! You know, the thing with memes are, SOME bloggers visit the blogs just to pass memes. No memes, no visit; parang ganun ang nangyayari. I visit blogs to read posts, and comment if needed, not to pass memes. And those tedious linkies meme, grrr! Now, i am really expressing my views about memes, grrr! Let’s see…sino bang idol ko?

  14. I love doing most of the memes! Well, I’ve always loved filling in my friends’ autographs way back in highschool. :D I also do these as my own way of “pakikisama” with other blogger friends. I definitely don’t do these for technocrati ranking… I seldom visit technocrati actually.

anyway, it’s a bit touching you considering your mother as one of your idols. :)

  17. WOW! Pag number one fan mo ba Kuya eh number one din sa list ng mga ti-nag mo??? Hehehe. Well, this meme is one way of showing our sensible side. Ang hirap pa namang sagutin nito, haaaaay!!!!

You are right there again Kuya as always. Sometimes the tags and awards being passed around doesn’t give meaning at all to the point that it’s getting abused. Like if u pass a Blogger of the Month Award, what are the basis why he/she was given that award??? WE all know the MAJOR reasons why we tag and give awards-show our appreciation to bloggers and to get hitbacks after we tag a number of people. WE might hate to admit it but the 2nd reason holds true more than the first one.

You know I am guilty of passing around memes kuya. Because of respect and also for the appreciation to the blogger friends who thought of linking me thru their tags and awards, I take time to post them. Though its not as prompt as I possibly could but I always try my best. Pero diko talaga nagagawa lahat ng tags. It takes a whole lot of my time, instead of thinking and writing a relevant post, my time is consumed up in tagging almost all people in my blogroll, hahaha!

Thank you for tagging me with this wonderful meme. You are an epitome of what a sensible blogger really is. Keep it up!

P.S. Asan na nga pala si RJ Kuya? I’ve missed her. She hasn’t messaged me since the other night…
