My New Anti-Spam: Math Anti-Spam Plugin

Today, I have changed my Captcha anti-spam to Math anti-spam. This is in response to commentators’ complaints regarding their comments just vanishing in thin air after having written some 200 or more words. For those who have experienced this problem in this blog, my deepest apologies. It’s not my intention to make your blog lives more difficult. It’s just that those incidents are beyond my control.

Also, I have written about the said problem many bloggers (authors and commentators) have experienced with Akismet. This is an archived article titled “Is Akismet in WordPress Becoming Too Strict?” Some of your comments must have been caught by Akismet and either put in my Akismet bin or deleted without me knowing it. For any problem regarding this one, you may go to Akismet.com and seek help from their support department. Like what I have written before, Akismet is not 100% accurate and should you be concerned if you have been labeled as a spam, then contact the proper authorities.

I love reading your comments, dear readers. As such, I have devised a much easier way for you to comment through the newly-installed anti-spam plugin. I know many of you have had so some difficulties reading the old Captcha codes. Even my own comments (in reply to yours) have been cut or deleted a few times. If you have observed, it’s become my practice to respond to comments although it’s one tough task. It’s one taxing work responding to 20-50 comments per day but it’s all for the sake of goodwill. I hope you will find commenting in this blog easier now and may you learn something from my writings.

Lastly, I’m also going to use this plugin in my other blog (www.blog2learn.com) to see how it works in another blog having a different structure, setup and capability.

  3. Sa wakas Sis Jen! It was successful this time. Thanks to Idol’s new Math anti-spam. I am one of the complainants, too! Huh! It happened to me several times. Writing 2- 3 paragraphs and when u get to submit it, there was an error and everything you’ve written is all gone! Very disheartening! Good thing our Idol is so quick in responding to our complaints…

  5. Hahaha! Good idea, Jessie. That captcha is ten times harder than this math anti-spam. I might use this on my blog too, side by side with Akismet.

Hahaha! That’s good my friend. See, it’s very easy now, right?

    @ Marlene,

I have you in mind as one of the commentators who had difficulty reading the captcha code. Even I had difficulty with the captcha and I think it has a bug. Even if you type the correct code, the comment is deleted at times.

your comments went through. There were two that did if i’m not mistaken. I’m not just sure how many comments you left since in line with this post, Akismet sometimes automatically deletes them.

  18. Hay salamat friend na pinalitan mo na yung Captcha mo. I really had difficult times with that one! Haha! Regarding the comments that didn’t come through few days ago, I copied and pasted it in Notepad so I can still ‘recover’ it once I get the chance to comment again. :) Sorry it took me so long (again) to respond, I’ve been so lazy lately, di ako nag computer/internet since the last time I commented on your shoutbox.

  20. Kuya, I just need to know. Why do you need this plugin po? Diba automatically under moderation naman yung mga posted comments. Tapos when you get them approved that’s the only time they get published. I’m really clueless.

  22. @ Jennie,

We need them simply to minimize spams. most spams are automated which gets through sometimes. With an anti-spam installed (like this one), spam scripts have very little or no chance of getting through our blogs because they are automatically deleted.

    @ Rickavieves,

Friend, I know. I know how difficult it must have been for you to type 7 characters only to get errors after posting your comments. With this new anti-spam, all yo have to do is solve a simple math problem. Much easier, right? :-)

  26. I had a bad experience with Akismet, I accidentally deleted a comment. And wth, I was not able to retrieve it! They should have an undo thing or they should put the deleted comments in a trash box so that you can retrieve them, just in case. :)

That’s exactly what i had in mind. Comments deleted by the user should go to a recycle bin before final deletion so that users can still have time to retrieve them in case the comments are legit.
