Did Google Strip Off Your Page Rank Sooner than Expected?
Some blogger-friends reported within the last 48 hours that their Google Page Ranks have been stripped off after accepting a few paid reviews from PayPerPost. After the update of PR’s on the second week of January this year, many people felt excited about gaining Page Ranks for their sites.
As far as I know, the next Google Page Rank update is scheduled 3 or 4 months after the first update of 2008 (and that would be between April-May). But with the latest developments, it seems that Google’s guns have been firing up more frequently. Is Google killing bloggers slowly? Maybe, maybe not. But as I have written before, if you intend to accept paid posts, one of the best bargaining chips you can possibly have is your Page Rank.
Some bloggers are infuriated, but some are calm. After having accepted a few number of opps from PPP, Google hit back. Is this Google’s way of restraining bloggers to earn more or do they want to create a paid review network of their own? If they have this bold attempt to create a paid network of their own which will generate billions of additional revenues to their already humungous bank deposits, then it’s logical for them to find a way to eradicate their competition like PPP, Smorty, Reviewme, and others.
I’m not really sure about this but I think this is where Google’s compass is pointing recently which is suggested by their bold and hasty moves. I have always been a for-the-blogger guy and I just hope those who have lost their Page Ranks will recover them as soon as possible so that they can earn more from blogging by getting better offers from advertisers. The only question is HOW? The answer remains to be known as events regarding this issue unfold in the coming days. Let’s just hope for the best for bloggers like ourselves.

I have known a lot of bloggers who gained their PRs but were immediately slapped with a ZERO after they have taken a few ooppps from PPP. But I know of some who also gained back their PRs after they removed PPP badges from their respective pages. I’m still at a loss about this PR thing. But still, PR or no PR, I hope blogging would still serve its purpose. Public Relations for one. I am overwhelmed by the new friendships that I have encountered here. So even if Google would slap me a PR0, its still would be OK. I\’ll try my best to get it back in time though, hehe!

PR is useless, trafficwise.

PPP has this IZEA ranking. But most of its advertisers still use the PR ranking. Sponsoredreviews is not using PR.
I hope the mighty Google won’t do another round of PR massacre.

@ Ellaine,
Don’t worry too much about your PR. I see you’re enjoying what you do in blogging so keep it up.

@ Julia,
Yes that’s true because PR and traffic are two separate site metrics. However, PR can serve you well when you intend to accept paid posts since many advertisers require a certain PR rating for you to be able to grab the opps. For me, PR doesn’t really matter as much as my passion for writing. Just write and enjoy blogging – that’s my philosophy.

@ Lazarus,
I’d like to point out something there. Some advertisers at SponsoredReviews require PR. There are those who do not require one (which are usually the ones who pay less). For higher-paying advertisers, they definitely require PR maybe to ensure that the site is trustworthy because of the wrong notion that a site’s value is reflected in its PR. Well, that’s their take.

Ah ok. That would be great if you can ask for some space from him.

Since I had gained a higher PR during the recent Google PR update, I am now taking advantage of those get-paid-for-blogging opportunities. At least, I get my blog approved before Google thinks of lowering my PR.

@ Rickavieves,
Actually that’s one of the objectives of my contests. If you win, I’ll feature your blog and help you promote your site which I hope will bring traffic on your part. It’s my way of giving back to you the traffic that you brought me all this time.

like elaine, i took advantage of my PR after acquiring it from the last google pr update. that blog was intended to generate some income so when i got a PR 3 i thought its about time that that blog start to generate some sort of income.
sadly, i am one of those who have been google smacked for a few days of registering my blog and accepting paid posts from PPP.
If you will read my recent post, you’ll understand where I am coming from. I am not the one in an outrage but google is and ppp can’t do anything about it (yet…) PPP is trying to somehow eradicate PR requirements but until then… the poor posties will have to wait.

I am wondering..I have other blog doesn’t have PPP but the PR4 slapped to N/A or maybe that was zero already. The PR badge still shows the PR in my page but when I checked it duh!freak google.

Google do update on an unspecified frequency now. like my blogspot blog, i only had my PR 4 for 1 1/2 months, as I have been into paid posts a few weeks even before I got the rank. it’s been PR0 since November but it has not bothered me a bit. i’m enjoying what I’m doing and that’s all that matters.
[Reply]
I am not really that upset when my PR in one of my blogs dropped to 0. I already expected that sooner or later my PR will drop too like the other bloggers. At least I enjoyed it for 1 1/2 months and I earned quite a bit in paid blogging. So my advise to all paid bloggers with PR, strike while the iron is hot. Grab opps while you can so when Google will take away your PR, at least you have earned money already. It’s just practical, isn’t it? Most of us are blogging to earn money and gain some friends too at the same time. That’s what makes blogging so exciting!

@ Vienna,
I understand your concern and I’ve read your post. I know how hard it is for some bloggers to lose their PR’s. Don’t worry too much (if this has bothered you). Like I said, let’s just hope for the best. I hope you’ll gt your PR back or even higher. just grab opps that are suitable to your site (or opps that you feel like doing). Pr or no PR, if you have established a good reputation with review companies, they will still value you as a blogger.
@ Joy,
Can you try using iwebtool’s PR checker (http://www.iwebtool.com/pagerank_checker) and try to verify for yourself your actual Google PR. Sometimes, their servers are down but you may go back to the site again and again just to check when servers can already show you your PR.
@ Juliana,
That’s the proper attitude. Don’t get frustrated by things like these because you might get discouraged doing what you love to do. Just enjoy blogging for now. When the right time comes for you to make money, then go ahead and make money. Just don’t forget to share some with me
… Good luck!

@ Lisa,
Congratulations on the success of your online ventures… Well, yes that could be a practical move since Google PR is volatile…

Before i am not concern about this PR, but when i entered PPP’s program i’ve realized the value of it. Right now, i am focused on getting my PR5. For seven months in the blogosphere that’s a big achievement i’ve got.
My pinoytek.net blog gained PR3 after two months, same with pinoyambisyoso.com. Sabi nga nila kung me kapit ako sa google. Sabi ko secret hahaha. Congrats sa PR 4 mo brother. Nice start!
Btw, hope to see you next week, i’ll be in pagudpud!

@ Ambo,
That’s true. When you start monetizing your blog, your concerns also change. I have realized that also but I have doubts as to overusing this blog by way of accepting many posts. I will create blogs that will be meant for monetization, but i don’t think i can risk this one. A few paid posts in this blog will do, hence, paid blogging with a little control.
[Reply]
I’m not doing any paid post for 2 days hehe. My last’s Business As Usual :-0 Btw, that’s a good idea. I’m gonna do that too bro. It’s planned for Pinoytek

Ambo,
That would be wonderful, amigo. You see, I really think it’s best to separate a personal blog (one that contains most normal content) from a money blog. This way, readers won’t be too confused. Accepting paid posts in a personal blog is ok for as long as there is a certain limit or ratio of normal content to paid posts. Well, that’s just my opinion in order to avoid overusing (or abusing) the blog and the objectives of writing for a blog.

This happened to me, too, as I have recounted in this entry. I just removed all those PPP badges. After a week, I could see my name again in Google search.

@ Shiera,
Some bloggers also had that experience. Google’s really is biased against PPP posties with PPP badges on their sites.
[Reply]
Since I wasn’t fortunate to get a PR Rank the last time Google made an update, I only thrive with my 0 PR status. Fortunately, many SR advertisers are equal-opportunity provider so I still get paid reviews.
And Jessie, remember what we always believe in? Monetizing is not everything in blogging, it’s still the “good stuff” in your blog that matters. I’s still for it.

Thanks for the heads up article jessie cause I was starting to look into PPP. But now i don’t think it is even worth the risk. Seems better for those who have time enough to write for payment, they should just score freelance work from one of the Elance type networks.
