Grandkids, et al.

Friends online frequently ask how old I am. This is because of my wish list stating that I want to have more time with my grandchildren. Well, I’m 33 years old and my grandkids are not my children’s children but my nieces whose ages range from 20-31 years old. Close age gap, huh!

I love kids. I always have. Sometimes I wonder what happened why up to now I don’t have yet my own. Was it work? Most likely. However, for moms and dads out there, I envy you. My wife and I have been together for almost a year now but since we’re both working, we don’t have much time doing it till we drop dead (which is probably be a good thing).

However, when treating kids, I presume some of us (if not all) have favorites. Of all my grandchildren, I have a distinct bias with my twins. They are in fact my favorites for being so sweet and caring. I find them special because they have this inexplicable bonding between them. Just a like a dialogue in the movie “The Forgotten”, their special bond is like an invisible tissue. When one is hurt, the other feels it in a weird way (even if they are far apart from each other).

In fact, National Geographic Channel tackled the phenomenon about identical twins having psychic bonds. This is highly possible since identical twins have the same DNA. Biologically, we can say that they are one and the same person split into two parts. The only noticeable differences are physical in nature. One is slightly thinner and the other is slightly taller. Emotionally, I have not observed any significant difference and as a granddad I have this fear that maybe someday they will fall in love with the same girl and start killing each other. Oh, that’s violent… but possible. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed.

I actually wrote about them in my other blog in its infancy. I might as well write about them in this blog so other bloggers who have known me for quite some time now will understand that the roles a “Lolo” (grandfather) does not vary much from that of a father. To be honest, being a grandfather is a lot more difficult because I tend to be more “kunsintidor” (tolerant) of their mischievous acts and I feel jealous (a lot) even when they kiss other grandparents. Sometimes I feel selfish for not wanting the twins to show affection to others but me.

Here are some photos of my babies:

  5. Hay naku they are so cute, sino ba naman ang hindi mafa-fall in love sa kanilang dalawa. Being married for a year is such a short time for you to worry why you still don’t have your own. My cousin have been married for 8 years bago nagkaanak. Habang wala pa, enjoy each other na lang muna ;) I pray that you’ll be blessed with one this year. TC

  7. Nothing to do, you have to make some own children to be occupied with them and with responsability. To understand that they are not only toys but a great problem too. Leave all blogs and begin to work! ;)))

  11. i also used to obsess about my niece (the first apo of my parents) that she was such a spoiled rotten niece. siya favorite ko. it was tough moving here kasi i didn’t like the idea of not having to see her grow up. now, she’s 18. i’m still without a child (which is entirely a different story)not by choice. we actually toyed with the idea of adopting her when she was 8. grabe ‘no?

  15. Hi jess, if you want to have kids, you need to set your heart and mind to it and keep trying until you and wife achieve your goals. haha :D Hey your boys are cute… I’m 28 but i am not married yet and maybe I don’t think i will want to have kids. I have a nephew and a niece, they are fun to play with but to look after my own kids… I don’t know. Cheer and take care.
